How Our Coaching Approach Delivers Real Progress
Every swimmer progresses differently — but the way they are coached should never be left to chance. At SWIM2000, every lesson follows a structured approach designed to build proper technique, confidence, and long-term swimming ability from the very beginning.
Why Most Swimming Lessons Don't Work
Many swimming lessons in Singapore place 10 in a single class with rotating coaches. While students may learn to move across the pool, they often develop poor technique — incorrect kicking, improper breathing, and inefficient strokes. Without consistent coaching and correction, these habits become difficult to fix and can slow down long-term progress.
Why SWIM2000 Is Different
At SWIM2000, every beginner class is kept small and every lesson is coached by the same instructor. We focus on teaching the correct technique from the start — including proper breathing, efficient strokes, and strong fundamentals. This ensures faster progress, better swimming ability, and long-term confidence in the water.
Why This Approach Matters
Many swimming lessons focus on short-term results — helping students get across the pool quickly. While this builds initial confidence, it often leads to poor technique that becomes difficult to correct later.
At SWIM2000, we focus on building the right foundation from the start. This allows students to progress more efficiently, avoid frustration, and develop stronger swimming ability over time.
What This Means for You or Your Child
- Faster and more consistent progress
- Stronger and more efficient swimming technique
- Greater confidence in the water
- Better long-term swimming ability
- Reduced need to relearn or correct bad habits later

What Parents and Students Say
"Over 30 years ago, I was a semi-competitive swimmer training under Coach Jack, alongside Yucong. Even then, the focus was clear. Build correct technique first, then develop speed on that foundation. Today, my four children are training with the team. Through coaches like David and Kah Heng, I can see that Coach Jack’s teaching philosophy and standards have been passed down properly. The structure, discipline, and attention to technique remain exactly as I remember it. My two eldest are already progressing into competitive-level swimming, and the younger two are on the same path. There are no shortcuts, and this coaching team continues to do it the right way."
— Steven Liew
"I enrolled my girls in three different swimming academies over four years and they still couldn't swim independently. Within just three lessons at SWIM2000, they were swimming on their own. Coach Yucong adapts his approach to each child's personality — firm when needed, but always approachable."
— Eve C.
"My daughter had a deep fear of water and made little progress elsewhere. When she started with Coach Yucong at age 4, his patience and encouragement transformed her completely. Six years later, she has completed SwimSafer Stage 6. I've recommended him to many friends and every single one has seen the same results."
— Emily Sim
"My child spent a year and a half at another swim centre with zero progress. After three lessons with Coach Yucong, the improvement was easily ten times what we had seen before — and I am not exaggerating. His students swim with a level of technique that clearly reflects the quality of his coaching."
— Sharon Toh
"We were at another swimming school for a full year with no real improvement for my two boys. On their very first lesson with Coach Yucong, they came home and told me they liked the coach. That never happened before. Already seeing the difference."
— Raymond Lim
"Our son was hesitant about swimming and struggled to connect with previous coaches. Coach Yucong has a rare ability to make young swimmers feel safe and engaged. Now he looks forward to every lesson and genuinely loves swimming. The transformation in his confidence has been remarkable."
— Joelyn Lin
"In just two months, my 4-year-old is swimming short distances without any floatation devices. Coach Yucong strikes the perfect balance — firm enough to keep boundaries, encouraging enough to make kids eager to learn. We are genuinely impressed and would recommend him without hesitation."
— Irin Boo
Frequently Asked Questions
What age can children start swimming lessons in Singapore?
At SWIM2000, we recommend starting structured swimming lessons from age 5. At this age, most children have the focus and coordination to make consistent, measurable progress. We assess each child individually during their first lesson — readiness matters more than age alone. What matters most is that your child learns in a safe environment with a consistent coach who understands child development in the water.
What is SwimSafer and how does SWIM2000 prepare students for it?
SwimSafer is Singapore's national water safety and swimming programme, developed by Sport Singapore. It has 6 progressive stages — from basic water entry and floating all the way to open water survival skills and 400m continuous swimming. Each stage is assessed through the standardised CAMS format. At SWIM2000, we build correct technique from Stage 1, so students do not need to unlearn bad habits later. Our students consistently pass their SwimSafer assessments and many continue to competitive swimming.
How many students are in each swimming class?
Our beginner classes are capped at 6 students, ensuring every new swimmer receives maximum individual attention as they build their foundations. As students progress to intermediate and advanced levels, class sizes gradually increase — the shared competitive energy between peers drives faster improvement. For stroke correction sessions, we keep groups as small as 4, allowing highly focused technical coaching.
Where are your swimming lessons in Singapore conducted?
SWIM2000 conducts swimming lessons at two public pools managed by Sport Singapore: Yishun Swimming Complex (convenient for Yishun, Sembawang, and Northpoint residents) and Bukit Canberra Swimming Complex (serving Canberra, Woodlands, and Sembawang residents). Both venues have proper facilities and are easily accessible by public transport.
Do you offer adult swimming lessons in Singapore?
Yes. Many adults come to us having never learned to swim, or having tried lessons elsewhere without success. Our adult swimming lessons are beginner-friendly and conducted in a non-judgmental environment. We offer structured step-by-step coaching that builds genuine water confidence. We also offer intermediate lessons for adults who swim but want to improve stroke efficiency or prepare for open water events.
How long does it take to learn to swim?
Most beginners can swim a short distance independently within 6 to 10 lessons with consistent attendance and quality coaching. Children with water fear may take a little longer initially but typically make rapid gains once comfort is established. We are so confident in our coaching that we back it with a money-back guarantee: if your child does not master basic breaststroke within 3 months of consistent lessons, we will refund your fees in full. The timeline ultimately depends on lesson frequency, class size, and coaching quality — all three of which we optimise at SWIM2000.
Do you offer competitive swimming training in Singapore?
Yes. SWIM2000 has a competitive track for swimmers aiming to join school teams, national age group competitions, or SSA-sanctioned events. Coach Jack has over 50 years of experience developing competitive swimmers. Coach Yucong, a SEA Age Group Championships medalist, personally coaches competitive-track students. Our approach: correct stroke mechanics and efficiency first, race speed second — the same philosophy that produced competitive swimmers over three decades.
Are your swimming coaches certified?
Yes. All SWIM2000 coaches hold SSA (Singapore Swimming Association) coaching certification. Coach Yucong is a nationally accredited coach and SEA Age Group Championships medalist. Coach Jack has been coaching competitive and recreational swimmers in Singapore for over 50 years. You will work with the same coach every session — not a different instructor each week.
